EARLY PREGNANCY ASSESSMENT CLINIC
Discovering you’re having a baby is an exciting but sometimes daunting period. It can be especially challenging, if early on in your pregnancy, things don’t go to plan. At Haven, we understand how important it is to have fast access to caring medical experts to ensure the best healthcare for both you, and your baby.
Haven’s Early Pregnancy Assessment Clinic is designed for women less than 12 weeks pregnant who find they are experiencing worrying symptoms or are concerned about the health of their baby. Please note that women experiencing excessive bleeding or severe pain are advised to attend their nearest Emergency Department.
How the Assessment Clinic Works
We know there’s not always time to seek a referral in an emergency, so you’re welcome to pop in without having been referred by your primary healthcare doctor (although a referral is helpful). Upon arrival, you’ll be assessed by our midwife, and pathology may be taken to measure your hormone levels and track how your pregnancy is progressing. We have blood collection onsite, so everything can be done here at Haven.
A qualified sonographer will then perform an ultrasound on you. This helps us to understand the reasons behind your symptoms and together with a fetal medicine doctor, build a tailored management plan for your unique situation. Often, this will involve attending your GP or your specialist for follow up, but on occasion we may need to refer you to your local hospital for further assessment and monitoring. A letter with your results will be sent to your preferred doctor.
Please note any scan performed as part of this service will not be a substitute for your routine pregnancy scans. This service does incur an out-of-pocket expense. Please contact our friendly staff to discuss.
