GYNAECOLOGY SCANS
GYNAE/PELVIC ULTRASOUNDS
Routine Pelvic Ultrasounds are non-invasive diagnostic assessments using ultrasound soundwaves to produce pictures of your pelvic organs.
A transvaginal ultrasound is performed when assessing your pelvic area to obtain the best detail possible and help our specialist Doctors to report as much detail to your referring Doctor.
At Haven Ultrasound we offer both routine gynaecology scans, complex gynaecology scans, and deep infiltrating endometriosis scans, dependent on the request from your referring Doctor and your individual circumstances.
OVARIAN CANCER SCREENING
Ovarian Cancer screening usually takes place with a combination of a serum CA-125 blood test and a transvaginal ultrasound.
During this screening, the sonographer or doctor will use soundwaves to look at your ovaries, as well as your uterus and fallopian tubes to check for any abnormalities or masses.
IVF ULTRASOUNDS AND FOLLICLE TRACKING
IVF Ultrasounds take place before or during your treatment cycle to track follicular development and to aid Doctors to better time egg retrieval.
They’re a normal part of ensuring your best chance of success to conceive a baby and will be explained to you by your IVF or Fertility specialist.
DEEP ENDOMETRIOSIS ULTRASOUNDS
Endometriosis Ultrasounds consists of a transvaginal scan to detect any uterine tissue lining which lies in an abnormal place, such as the pelvis.
The deep endometriosis scan is a specialised scan to assess your uterus, ovaries, bowel, uterosacral ligaments, bladder, ureters, vagina, rectovaginal septum and the Pouch of Douglas to look for fluid, endometriosis nodules, obliteration and assess the mobility of some organs. This scan provides much more detailed information about the presence of endometriosis than a routine pelvic ultrasound provides.
Our specialist Sonographers work alongside our team of expert Doctors to determine the extent and location of your endometriosis. This further allows for the correct multidisciplinary team to be involved in your management.
If you have endometriosis symptoms and there is a potential for surgery, it is very important for your specialist to know the extent of your endometriosis, for example if your bowel and/or bladder are affected. This can help ensure the correct team are available to assist during your first surgery and can reduce the need for a two-step laparoscopy.
HYSTEROSALPINGO-CONTRAST SONOGRAPHY
HyCoSy (Hysterosalpingo-Contrast Sonography) is an ultrasound procedure used to diagnose structural defects of your reproductive system and assess if your fallopian tubes are open or blocked. This is often requested as part of a fertility workup by your physician.
A small catheter is placed into the uterus and a bubbly saline solution is infused into the uterine cavity and is watched as the solution travels through the fallopian tubes. The Doctor performing this examination will be able to communicate the results to you at the time of the scan.
SIS
(Sonohystogram) Saline Infusion sonography is an ultrasound procedure used to assess in detail, the lining of your womb (endometrium). An SIS can be used to evaluate for small growths called polyps, can diagnose thickening of the womb lining, and can be used in women experiencing postmenopausal bleeding.
This will be performed by one of our Haven Doctors and a Sonographer. This procedure requires the insertion of a small catheter into the uterus and the introduction of saline to distend the endometrial cavity, this allows us to better evaluate the lining for any abnormalities.
GENETIC CARRIER SCREENING
Genetic Carrier screening tests you and your partner for any genetic abnormalities which might impact the health of your future children.
Normally conducted pre-pregnancy, these tests are useful for women who have a family history of genetic conditions or those planning a pregnancy who wish to have peace of mind. Conducted via simple blood tests, they are quick to undertake.
GENETIC COUNSELLING
Genetic Counselling is offered to women whose genetic carrier screening tests indicate the likelihood of genetic conditions which may be passed onto their unborn child/children.
Counselling will support you in your decision making and provide you support at this difficult time.
